Clarks take on Europe – Dec 2025 (Day 1)!

I purchase the domain name “Dancewiththeworld.com” because that is the title of a podcast I’m thinking about starting. But I hope to use it as a home for my travel blogging about our trip.

Day 1 – Clarks take on Europe Dec 2025

Whew! We are here at the airport. Ok, I packed way too much. It will not be fun lugging that suitcase all over. When we get to Paris, I’m going to have to leave some stuff in Nathan’s apartment before we head out for the bulk of the trip.

If you were not already aware, Randy, Ashleigh, and I are headed to Paris to hook up with Nate (as he is called in France) for a 22-day exploration of France, Switzerland and Italy. Woohoo!!! Here is our plan:

Paris (3 nights), then to Strasbourg, FR to see oldest Christmas village, then to Zurich (1 night), to Chur, Switzerland (1 night), to catch Bernina Express through Swiss Alps. This will be on Dec. 24th. We will travel from Chur to Tirano, Italy then catch another train to take us to Milano (2 nights). That is where we will be for Christmas day. Then off to Venice for 3 nights with a ½ day stop in Verano. We will be in Venice for 3 nights, then we’ll travel to Florence, Italy for 3 nights. We will spend NYE in Florence.

From Florence, we head to Genoa making a train change in Pisa. One night in Genoa. Then we travel to Nice, France for 3 nights. If I planned it all correctly, and the stars align, and the trains run, we will take our final train back to Paris on Jan. 5th. Nathan starts classes again on the 6th. We will spend 2 nights in Paris and head home early on Jan. 7th.

Right now, we are in the Nashville airport waiting to get on the first airplane to Newark, NJ. We will have a 4 hr layover before the long flight to Paris.

Ashleigh asked how long before we will have our first skuttle (I prefer to call it a skuttle rather than a fight). Randy replied “well your mom and I already had one this morning.” True, I guess.

I’m holding down the fort with all the luggage while Ashleigh and Randy are scouring for food. We are some worried that food will be a challenge for us. But I’ll update you on that front.

I’m excited about our adventure. I’m excited to be spending this rare time with Nathan, Ashleigh, and Randy. I know those times are not guaranteed. We will miss being with you all for Christmas. Christmas will feel and be very different this year – but I so hope that it is special for all of us. But as a mom who asks way too many questions all the time and probably always speaks with some judgement in my tone, I will try to say less and be more in the moment. Peanut butter will be my word to remind myself to say less.

Update at 9:38 pm. Our flight is delayed because it was delayed earlier in the day. Hopefully, we will depart by 10:45.

Love You,

Leigh Anne
